Horses were domesticated in Britain from the start of the Bronze Age, but it is thought that initially they were only used to pull carts and carry loads. Oxen would have shared these roles. During the Late Bronze Age, horse-riding became popular and developed until the horse had a central part in Iron Age society both as a riding animal and for pulling chariots for personal transportation and war. Iron Age horses were probably shorter than most full-sized horses today, most standing under "maximum pony height" of ~1.5m at the shoulder.

For this activity Kane went pony trekking at a local riding stable, he rode for half an hour and then helped to groom the pony he had ridden.
