This is one of a set of four short books set in the Stone Age by Horrible Histories author Terry Deary.
The Great Flood is set just as the Old Stone Age (Palaeolithic) becomes the Middle Stone Age (Mesolithic). Rising sea levels turned Great Britain and Ireland into islands, cut off from mainland Europe, and force one family to build their house on stilts (similar to Mesolithic remains found at Starr Carr). The tale also imagines an early retelling of a flood myth suspiciously like the Noah's Ark Bible story: "one of the oldest stories in the world".
