Visit: The Avebury Area

July 2020: Day two of our Prehistory week was doing Avebury Stone circle and the surrounding monuments, including Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and the Sanctuary henge site with Overton round barrows right next to it.

Apart from the round barrows, these sites are all Neolithic, and slightly predate Stonehenge which was started in the Neolithic but then developed into its famous form during the Bronze Age.

We were based in a B&B just north of Marlborough called “The Inn with the Well” for the nights before and after this day, which meant we knew we would be getting a cooked dinner at 7pm and could just snack in the daytime while we were out.
